Find the cause before choosing a repair

Leaks can come from failed waterproofing, plumbing, drainage or shower-screen seals. If a concealed pipe leak or another specialist issue is suspected, a licensed plumber or leak-detection specialist may be needed before tiling repairs begin.

Repairing failed shower waterproofing

Where suitable after assessment, the repair may involve removing the shower floor tiles and the lower row of wall tiles, preparing the substrate, rebuilding the screed and falls, installing a compatible waterproofing system, then retiling, grouting and applying silicone at the required junctions. More extensive removal may be needed to achieve a sound repair.

Regrouting and surface sealing do not replace a failed waterproofing membrane. We explain the recommended scope before work starts.

What to arrange

  • Have spare matching tiles available if possible. Discontinued tiles may need a contrasting replacement.
  • Shower-screen removal and reinstallation must be arranged with a suitable screen installer.
  • Plumbing work is performed by a licensed plumber, separately from our tiling scope.
  • Keep the shower out of use for the curing period specified for the installed system.
